Hello Chaparral School Families,

Welcome back to the 2023-24 school year at Chaparral School.  We hope you have all had a great holiday and are enjoying the last days of summer!  As the end of August is coming upon us quickly, we would like to connect with our school community share some important information about the beginning of our new school year!

To help prepare your child for a positive school start up, it would be a great time to re-introduce some routines needed for a smooth start up to school and to really speak positively about going to school, making new friends, and working with a new teacher.  There are so many wonderful experiences in store for them and it is an exciting time. Students may need some support to be excited about the change. Chaparral is a safe and welcoming community, and each class is filled with friends that the students don’t know they have yet!

On Tuesday, August 29, you will receive an email from your child’s/ren’s teacher, welcoming them to their class and giving detailed information about the first day of school.  If you do not receive an email by Wednesday (and have checked your junk mail folder), please connect with the school and we will ensure that we get the information to you as soon as possible.  If we have had conversations regarding your child’s orientation of the school prior to August 31st, please reply to the teacher email about establishing that time.  You can also connect with us again if preferred.

When you get the email from the teacher, we understand that students will be excited and a bit nervous with new teachers and classmates.  Please note that this is normal and as such, we will not be making any class changes at this time.  Class configurations and placements are a complex undertaking and there are a lot of factors that go into this process to ensure that all learning environments are created as balanced and as a positive learning environment for everyone.  Teachers and staff have spent an exceptional amount of time creating the classroom communities for this school year.  The decisions are based on many factors and information and are not easily changed as it creates a domino effect.  We can assure you is that every effort was made to ensure that every student was placed in a class that we believe will be a great place to learn for them.

There are still a few more days of summer break before staff are officially back to work.  The main office will re-open on August 28 from 9:00am – 2:30pm for registration and inquiries.
