One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
All parents and guardians of Chaparral School students are invited to attend the School Council and School Society meetings.
At these meetings, there is an opportunity to hear about what is going on in the school, to learn about your child's education, to have the opportunity to share your perspective, and to ask questions. Parents also help to make important decisions about funds and resources.
All meetings will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Chaparral School.

We Love our Volunteers!
Thank you to all of the parents who volunteer at Chaparral School throughout the school year. You are helping a wonderful community and learning experience . This year our volunteers have/will be supporting the school in the following ways:
- Casino Fundraiser: This is our largest fundraiser! These funds support the whole school. For example, it pays for ALL of our transportation costs for field trips, learning materials (such as the Math UP exercise books), technology (iPads and Chrome Books), special materials like our Lost and Found cabinets, quality or our Picture Book cases, class sets of books, and special events (to celebrate students and bring the community together).
- Other Fundraisers: Purdy's Chocolates, Healthy Hunger (Fun Lunches, popcorn, cookies), Mabel's Labels
- Help to supervise field trips to Heritage Park, Calgary Zoo, the Confluence Historic Site, Leighton Centre, Canada Olympic Park, Community walks, Alberta Legislature, Lougheed House, Spark Science Centre, MidSun School, Rothney Astrophysical Observatory, Fish Creek Park, Centennial High School, Studio Bell, The Military Museums, AMA Patroller's Picnic, In-Class Field Trips and much more!
- Provided classroom help for hands-on activities such a cooking, art activities, wrapping of parent gifts, etc.
- Read with students
- Organization (Art Cupboards, Winter Celebration, special projects, cleaning and maintaining materials)
- Front Sign updates
- Picture Day and Vaccinations
- Help with clubs or special events
