Weekly Update Sept. 4-7 | Welcome Back, School Theme, Learning Schedule, Safety, Lates/Absences, Field Trips, Volunteer, Open House
Welcome Back Everyone!!
We are so excited to have our students back and see all of their smiling faces!! We look forward to a great year of learning together!
School Theme for the Year
On Friday last week, we held our welcome back assembly and shared our theme of “Trying”. Our goal is for everyone to try … in order to succeed, we need to try. It is okay to not be successful because it means you are one step closer to your goal. Our theme is based on the book Trying by Kobi Yamada. We can’t wait to see what we will all try for our learning this year.
In addition to this theme, we will also be continuing with our Mantras this year.
School Learning Schedule
We will be following a Day 1, 2, 3, 4 schedule this year to ensure equal access to PE and Music for all students. Additionally, Fridays will be left out of this rotation, and we will be planning for extra student supports and cross class re-grouping activities for all students. We will also plan our assemblies and any extra events on Friday when possible.
Student Safety
Our School Safety Patrols will not be at the crossings for the first couple of weeks, as there is yearly training that has to be completed first. Please make sure that you and your children are safe by crossing at the corners.
For parking and driving safety, it is critical that we leave the space in front of the main doors open for the buses. Additionally, it is very important that we are mindful of the driveways belonging to the neighbours of our school. Please DO NOT PARK IN FRONT of them.
Student Lates & Absences
If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the office to let us know. This is also important if your child will not be on the bus at the end of the day or someone new will be picking them up. It is very important that we have this information, so we know they are safe.
Walking Field Trips
Please see the Walking Field Trip Letter attached to the email which shows the locations of community spaces we will be using for our learning this year. These walking trips will not have the same forms as other field trips. Instead, there will be a notice to let you know this is happening prior to the walking trip. Volunteers will likely still be needed.
Volunteer Clearances
If you would like to Volunteer and have not completed a Police Clearance yet, please bring your Government issued ID to the office and Edwina will give you the required letter so that you are able to come in.
If you are already registered and would like to come in on a regular basis, please contact Edwina to be on our regular call list. You can email her at eoewart@cbe.ab.ca
Open House Next Week
On Thursday, September 14 in the evening, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, we will be hosting our open house for families. This is your opportunity to come to see the school and meet your child’s teacher. Also, it’s a time for you to share about your child as the teachers are still getting to know them. If your child's last name starts with the letters A-H, please plan to attend from 5:00pm-5:40pm. If your child's last name starts with I-P, please plan to attend from 5:40pm-6:20pm. If your child's last name starts with Q-Z, please plan to attend from 6:20pm-7:00pm.

Weekly Mantra
I Will Try (SEL Competency: Self-Management)
What is important, is the trying. You won’t ever fail unless you stop trying. You don’t have to be the best, just try your best. If you don’t try, you’ll never know!
