Weekly Update Sept. 11-15 | Busing, Drop-off/Pickup, Safety, Forms, Open House, Terry Fox Run, Absences, Volunteer

Bussing Updates

This past week we saw many days where the busses were delayed either in the AM arriving to school or in the PM to take students home. Please note that we are working with CBE Transportation to have the schedules adjusted to make it fit with our bell schedule better. We thank you for your patience and understanding while we have this adjusted. If you have not registered your child yet for the bus, and you require bussing this year, please do so ASAP. Registration does not require payment immediately but does grant access to the bus for your child. Please register in your MyCBE Account.

Walking Your Pets to School at Drop-off and Pick-up

We would like to remind families that dogs are not allowed on School Property without Service Dog application and written permission from the principal. This is a City of Calgary Bylaw, and it is important to follow it.

You are welcome to walk your dog for drop-off and pick-up, however they must stay on the sidewalk and all waste needs to be picked up and disposed of properly.

This is for the safety of everyone including yourselves and your pet.

Student Safety

Our School Safety Patrols will not be at the crossings for the first couple of weeks, as there is yearly training that has to be completed first. Please make sure that you and your children are safe by crossing at the corners.

For parking and driving safety, it is critical that we leave the space in front of the main doors open for the buses. Additionally, it is very important that we are mindful of the driveways belonging to the neighbours of our school. Please DO NOT PARK IN FRONT of them.

Student Forms

All families should have received a message from the CBE to update your forms. These forms are required on a yearly basis and need to be updated for accuracy and new school year permissions. All forms can be found at your MyCBE account.

Within these forms, there are 2 consents for internal or external permissions to post student information. Please understand, this does not mean that you are granting permission for the media to have access to your child. Any even with the media would require a separate consent. These forms do allow us to display your child’s work on the bulletin boards (internal) or with photos that could be shred with your child’s class (external). Regarding social media (Instagram) we work carefully to ensure that students are not identifiable in the posts.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call Mrs. Robinson. We want to celebrate your child alongside their classmates, so we need your permission to do so.
If you do not have a MyCBE account, on the MyCBE page click on Create a MyCBE Account. For online help refer, to MyCBE - Creating an Account (includes instructions and a video).

It is critical for families to have this account for communication and report card purposes.

Open House This Week

On Thursday, September 14 in the evening, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, we will be hosting our open house for families. This is your opportunity to come to see the school and meet your child’s teacher. Also, it’s a time for you to share about your child as the teachers are still getting to know them. If your child's last name starts with the letters A-H, please plan to attend from 5:00pm-5:40pm. If your child's last name starts with I- P, please plan to attend from 5:40pm-6:20pm. If your child's last name starts with Q- Z, please plan to attend from 6:20pm-7:00pm.

Terry Fox Run

We will be holding our annual Terry Fox Run on Friday Sept 15. Staff and students will be participating in a run on our school field as a way to represent our support for the Terry Fox Foundation and all those who have been affected by cancer. Students are welcome to bring $2.00 (toonie) or donation of choice to school between the dates of Sept 11 and Sept 28. All donations collected will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation via our school council. If you would like to make a larger donation and would also like a tax receipt, you are asked to use the online donation site for this purpose. It is found at https://schools.terryfox.ca/Chaparral

All donations are completely voluntary, as is the amount donated and there is no expectation for staff, students, or families to participate.

Student Lates & Absences

If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the office to let us know. This is also important if your child will not be on the bus at the end of the day or someone new will be picking them up. It is very important that we have this information, so we know they are safe.

Volunteer Clearances

If you would like to Volunteer and have not completed a Police Clearance yet, please bring your government issued ID to the office and Edwina will give you the required letter so that you are able to come in. 2 pieces of government issued ID is required. We can also get you set up at the Open House.

If you are already registered and would like to come in on a regular basis, please contact Edwina to be on our regular call list. You can email her at eoewart@cbe.ab.ca
