Invite to Parents from Alberta Education

Parent Focus Group Invitation from Alberta Education

On Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, Alberta Education will host a focus group with the intention of seeking feedback from parents. The focus group will meet from 7 - 8:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Purpose: To collect insight from a parent perspective to update the old “My Child's Learning: A Parent Resource" website into a brand new space that will be hosted on new.LearnAlberta.ca

10 – 12 parents will be identified from metro, urban and rural school divisions, representing children of varying grade ranges (K-12) to participate in this focus group.

If interested, please complete the following Expression of Interest (see link). It will remain open until Monday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m.

Important Information

Connecting with the School Again Next Week

Mrs. Ewart will be away again next week.  If you are trying to connect to the main office via email, please email Mrs. Ozon at jeozon@cbe.ab.ca.  We are very lucky to have Mrs. Angela Anderson with us until she returns.  Angela can be reached at anmanderson@cbe.ab.ca.  Edwina should be back on October 27.

Volunteer Possibilities

At our last School Council meeting, we selected a volunteer coordinator.  Sydney Sopiwynk is going to help us organize and ensure we have all the volunteers that we need to cover off special activities in the school.  If you have a valid Police clearance and are registered to volunteer with us, we would love to be able to call on you.  Please email Sydney at volunteerchaparral@gmail.com to be sure you are on the list.

There are already opportunities to help out.  Ms. McBride’s class is going to Open Minds School at Arts Commons next week.  We need volunteers everyday of the trip which is for the entire week.  If you are available, please sign up by contacting Sydney or Ms. McBride.

Halloween

We will celebrate Halloween on October 31 at school.  Students are invited to wear their costumes in the afternoon only that day.  AM Kindergarten is able to wear their costume in the morning though.

All costumes need to be school appropriate.  Please no violence, blood, gore, weapons, or excessively scary costumes at school.  Students who do not want to wear a costume are invited to wear their favorite colour on October 31.

We want to remind everyone also that school is a place where we strive to follow a comprehensive health model.  Please do not send candy or other edible treats to school to share.  Any items that are sent, will be distributed to students as they leave for the day and be taken home.

Outstanding Demographic Forms

All outstanding Demographic Forms need to be completed ASAP.  These are tied to our school’s funding.

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found Cabinets are filling up!  Please ask your child(ren) to look for their belongings.  There is a large number of water bottles in there also.

Volunteer Clearances

We are finding that some volunteer clearances are not showing on our system if they were completed just prior to the change in process from the police service.  If you are not showing up on our list and have a copy of the clearance that you can share with us, we can make sure you still have access to our volunteering opportunities.

If you would like to Volunteer and have not completed a Police Clearance yet, please bring your government issued ID to the office and Edwina will give you the required letter so that you are able to come in.  2 pieces of government issued ID is required.  We can also get you set up at the Open House.

If you are already registered and would like to come in on a regular basis, please contact Edwina to be on our regular call list.  You can email her at eoewart@cbe.ab.ca

Weekly Mantra

If I Want To, I Can. (SEL Competency: Self-Management)

You are in control, you make your decisions, and you are the one in charge of you. It is always your choice to try something, or not to. To work hard, or not to.
