Super Exciting Good News Story!!

Chaparral School is going to be in the News (CTV Calgary) highlighting our Buddy Reading Program. This good news story that will be featured on CTV News Calgary, coming up on Tuesday, January 30. Our buddy reading program was nominated as part of the “Kids Take Action” TV segment each month. They featured the buddy program at Chaparral School, specifically with a few grade 5 students, from Mr. Gimbel’s class and Ms. Cottrell’s class, and a few grade 1 students from Ms. Edward’s class who were interviewed for this segment.

The segment will air on January 30, at 7:26 AM on CTV Morning Live.

This is a collaborative program throughout the school where the classes are teamed up with different grades. Some areas of focus have been literacy (reading/writing), math practice, and art projects.

We are so proud of our students who will be highlighted in such a fun way!!  Thank you to all students who were involved, to Mr. Gimbel, Ms. Cottrell, Ms. Edwards and of course to CTV News Calgary.

Report Cards

Report cards are available for families to view on your MyCBE account starting Tuesday January 30.  Any questions regarding your child’s learning can be directed to your child’s teacher by email. 

Parking and Traffic

Since the return to school, from the Winter Break, the traffic and parking at the school is increasingly getting more difficult to navigate.  Parents are reminded that the streets around the school, particularly in front of the school, are a drop off zone only.  We ask that parent NOT stop and get out of their cars to visit at these busy times.

Please use the front of the school as a “Kiss and Ride” drop zone where you can pull up, say a quick good-bye to your children and move along.

The school doors open for students at 8:30am and everyone is welcome to come in at that time and get settled for the day.  If we all do our part to keep this line moving, we will minimize the number of students who are running to beat the bell in the mornings.

Additionally, the street parking directly in front of the main doors is for BUSES ONLY!  We are seeing an increasing number of parents using this space to drop off and it has an impact on the buses as they arrive and depart. 

Calgary Bylaw and Parking authority are monitoring the situation and offenders may be ticketed if we happen to be audited any time soon.

The neighbouring homes by our school are also requesting that parents be mindful of where they park, and not block their driveways, even for a short bit.  It has a negative impact on these families as they try to exit or enter their homes.

Pink Shirt Day

Spirit Day

Our next Spirit Day is February 8.  It will be Favorite Book or Character in a Book Day.  We cannot wait to see your creativity for this one!!  I wonder how many Harry Potter’s or Pete the Cats we will have??

Next School Council Meeting

The next meeting is on February 8, 2024, at 6:30pm in Room 24.

This meeting will be in person only.  This will also be our next Spirit Day.  The theme for this day is Favorite Book or Book Character Day.  Students are invited to dress like their favorite book character or to represent their favorite book in their own way.

Popcorn & Fun Lunch Days

Please visit www.healthyhunger.ca to make your selections and place your orders.  Kindergarten students are invited to participate in popcorn days only as they are not at school for the lunch hour.

The next Popcorn Day is February 8.

Our next Fun Lunch Day is March 14.  It will be from Subway.  Orders are due by Feb 3.
