Important Information
Our Beloved Mrs. Ewart is Retiring!!
It is with mixed emotions that we share with you that Mrs. Ewart (Edwina), our Admin Assistant and office go-to gal is retiring! We are so happy that she is able to take the step on this new path in life. We are also very sad to see her go. More information will be shared closer to her last day at Chaparral School; however, we want to make sure that families know in advance as many of you have special connections with her. Edwina’s last day of work will be October 10, 2025.
Orange Shirt Day & Student Recognition Assembly
We will recognize Orange Shirt Day on Friday September 26. All staff and students are invited to wear an orange shirt, or their favourite shirt, to honour our Indigenous community members and survivors of residential schools.
We will also be holding our September Student Recognition Assembly on this day at 11:00am.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is on Tuesday September 30. Since we have a professional learning day on September 29 and September 30 is a holiday, we chose September 26 as the day we will recognize Orange Shirt day at school.
Meet the Teacher Open House Thank You
It was so great seeing all of our families who were able to come out for our Meet the Teacher Open House. The attendance was amazing and even better was the connection. We loved having our past families in to say hello and it was wonderful to meet so many of our new families. We hope your first impressions of this year were positive ones!!
Terry Fox Thank you
Thank you to all our families and students who supported the Terry Fox Run this year. With your donations, we raised $1019.80!! This money will go to the Terry Fox Foundation to support Cancer research. Way to go Chaparral School…this is amazing!
Traffic Safety
Thank you for your continued diligence in parking and driving around the school. Our students are so important to us, and it is all of our jobs to follow the traffic laws and keep them safe. This includes parking, driving the speed limit, stopping for the patrols and using the crosswalks rather than jaywalking.
In addition to these basics, families are reminded that U-turns in the middle of the street are illegal and if done in front of a school it is a very heavy fine. Please be mindful of this before making those turns in front of the school.
From the Office
Lunches and Snacks
We have been fortunate enough to have the supports of Brown Bagging for Kids. This means that students who require lunch supports are able to have some food. It is important that those who are experiencing food insecurities be able to access this food.
If you are a family who needs this service, we ask that you contact Mrs. Robinson or Ms. Bratko to ensure your child is prioritized. We will be letting families know if your child is accessing this service. By contacting you, we only wish to inform you that your child may need more lunch or snack each day.
Backpacks
We still have some backpacks to give to those who need one. If your child needs a backpack, please contact Mrs. Robinson or Ms. Bratko if your child could use one of them. They are new and large enough for a library book.
From School Council
Our next meeting will be Oct 9 at 6:30pm – Grade 1 is presenting. This is our AGM also. We will be voting in the new executive. Quorum is needed (25 people minimum) Please plan to attend and help support the learning of your children.
Fun Snack is on Sept 25. It is Kernels Popcorn.
Our next Spirit Day will be on Thursday October 9. We are tallying the votes and hope to announce the next spirit day next week.
Month at a Glance
We have a Month at a glance calendar that will be distributed at the beginning of each month. Updates will be posted on our website as they occur.
Please check our website for calendar updates. You can subscribe to it and the updates will go straight to your phone!! You will always be in the know!
Families are reminded that our website should always be your first point of information updates as it is consistent for the whole school.
Monthly Mantra
We are moving to a monthly mantra this year, to allow us to spend more time focusing on the learning connected to it. For the month of September, the mantra is:
Imagine a World … where the words you share with others can bring them warmth and light.
