Important Information

Veteran’s Food Bank

We will be collecting food items for the Veteran’s Food Bank of Alberta.  With Remembrance Day coming closer next month, it would be great to help fill up the shelves and help those who have served.  Chaparral families can drop off non-perishable goods in the boxes located in the front foyer.

Volunteering at Chaparral School

If you have completed your Police Check and our annual volunteer registration you are eligible to volunteer at our school.  Please email the school at chaparral@cbe.ab.ca is you would like to come in on a regular basis.  We are always looking for support to complete odd tasks throughout the school.

Halloween is Coming

Hallowe’en is coming very soon.  We would like to remind families that we will celebrate Hallowe’en in classes at school on October 31.  Costumes are welcome in the afternoon only, except for AM kindergarten.  AM Kindergarten students are welcome to wear their costumes in the AM when they come to school.

As always, costume that are worn at school need to be non-threatening, not full or blood and gore and appropriate for elementary school aged children.  We ask that students refrain from wearing a mask at school and all “weapons” that are part of a costume remain at home.  We will have a parade for all students to be able to see everyone’s costume.

Your child’s teacher will communicate any specific activities related to that class’ celebration and also remind families that shared snacks will not be distributed so we ask that they stay home.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Student Safety

Please remember that student safety is a top priority at Chaparral School.  Parents can help with this during drop-off and pick-up by adhering to the following safety rules:

  • Please cross at the crossings with the patrols
  • Please drop and go when pulling up near the playground.  It is not a long-term parking space and vehicles should not be left unattended.
  • Please remember to leave the front of the school, near the main doors and south along Chaparral Drive, free of cars.  This ensures our busses can safely pull in to drop off students in the AM and pick them up safely in the afternoon.

From the Office

1.    Please complete your Demographic Forms – This work is still ongoing and should have been complete by September 30.  Please ensure these forms are done right away.  It affects our school’s funding and the supports we can provide for our students.  If you are experiencing difficulty with these, please contact Edwina at the office for assistance.

2.    Register for Noon Supervision and for the Bus (if appropriate)

Our Casino Fundraiser is coming.  There will be many opportunities to volunteer for this one and you DO NOT need a police clearance to help out in this circumstance.  Please watch for upcoming information and Save The Dates – January 7 and 8, 2025.  There will be daytime, evening and night-time positions.

Fun Lunch/Fun Snacks and Spirit Days

Month at a Glance

We are moving to a Month at a glance calendar rather than in the weekly updates.  It will be provided at the beginning of the month each month and updates will be posted on our website as they occur.

Families are reminded that our website should always be your first point of information updates as it is consistent for the whole school.

Weekly Mantra

Take Care of Yourself and Others

When you take care of yourself and show that care toward others, you are showing respect for yourself and others also.  Respect goes a long way to show your true character!
