Veteran’s Food Bank

We will be collecting food items for the Veteran’s Food Bank of Alberta.  With Remembrance Day coming closer next month, it would be great to help fill up the shelves and help those who have served.  Chaparral families can drop off non-perishable goods in the boxes located in the front foyer.

Fall Break

Just a reminder that the Fall Break will take place next week.  School is closed November 11-13 for Remembrance Day and Fall Break.  Please note, this will be the only update until after the Fall Break as there are only 2 days of school for the week of November 11-15.

November is Hindu Heritage Month

Namaste! November is recognized across Canada as Hindu Heritage Month, which is a time to honour the rich traditions, culture, and contributions of the Hindu community in Canada. In Alberta, it is recognized in the month of August. With close to 830,000 persons identifying as part of the Hindu community in Canada, this is a time to learn about the significant role they have had in shaping the nation's multicultural identity. This is a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions across the economy, culture, arts, politics, vitality of the Canadian Hindu community and celebrating the mosaic of cultures that enrich the nation.

Volunteering at Chaparral School

If you have completed your Police Check and our annual volunteer registration you are eligible to volunteer at our school.  Please email the school at chaparral@cbe.ab.ca is you would like to come in on a regular basis.  We are always looking for support to complete odd tasks throughout the school.

From the Office

Please check your MyCBE accounts for updates to fees due.  As field trips and in-school events are scheduled, the fees will be added to your account.

Attendance Checks.  As part of our regular review of attendance, families whose children have had high numbers of absences will be receiving a letter.  These letters serve as notification of the impact that high absences have on student achievement.  Please ensure that your children are in attendance as frequent absences have negative influences on student achievement.

Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming at the end of the month.  Please plan to schedule an appointment to see your child’s teacher.  We love to celebrate their successes with you!

From School Council

Our next school council meeting is on Thursday, November 14 at 6:30pm in Rm 20.  Please plan to come out, learn more about what is happening at the school and participate in important decision making.

Starting with the November meeting, teachers will be attending these meetings to give a short update related to what is happening in their grade.  November will be the Grade 3 teachers presenting.

Casino Fundraiser

Our Casino Fundraiser is coming.  There will be many opportunities to volunteer for this one and you DO NOT need a police clearance to help out in this circumstance.  Please use this link to sign up to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E49ACA722A4FE3-52932910-chaparral

We recognize that the shifts are lengthy; however, they are chosen by the AGLC and we are not able to change them.  All volunteers will receive breaks and a food budget at the casino to use throughout their shift.

Families are reminded that our website should always be your first point of information updates as it is consistent for the whole school.

Weekly Mantra

You are a Creative Force (Nov 4-8)

Creativity comes in many forms.  It is artistic, dramatic, athletic, communicative and so many more things.  Everyone has creativity inside them.  If you can use your imagination, you can be creative!

Embrace Life, Especially the Messy Parts (Nov 14-22)

This mantra is all about embracing life, especially the messy parts! Sometimes things get a little messy, and that’s perfectly okay! Those moments can help us learn and grow. Instead of feeling upset when things don’t go as planned, let’s celebrate the chaos and see it as an adventure! Remember, every day is a chance to discover something new and exciting!"

Please check our website for calendar updates.  You can subscribe to it and the updates will go straight to your phone!!  You will always be in the know!
