For February, we challenge each other to practice more kindness, more love, more understanding toward others AND toward yourself. Spread some extra warmth and light during this month. The days are getting longer and the promise of spring is around the corner.

Important Information

School Engagement

At the last School Council meeting, we shared our School Development Plan and School Budget.  It was our engagement meeting and we collected feedback from those in attendance.  The presentation and a survey to gather further information from the rest of our school community, is now posted on our website.  Please visit the website and complete the survey before March 12. Learn more! We thank you in advance for your support and participation.

Message from Our Neighbours

We would like to remind our families not to block the driveways of our school’s neighbours.  We have received many phone calls from concerned neighbours about having their driveways blocked or even parked in.  Please remember these residences are private property and not for public parking.  Blocking driveways, for even a short amount of time, is illegal.  Please be mindful and respectful of these rules of the road.

Safety

The weather is getting much more tolerable and this is a good thing!  With the warmer weather, we also see an outdoor environment especially at the beginning and end of the day.  We have a few reminders for ALL students and families to follow:

  • Please DO NOT Jaywalk.  The patrols are at the crosswalks to make sure everyone gets across safely.
  • Please remember that the front of the school is for busses only.  Parents are asked not to stop or park in this zone.
  • Please utilize the drop-off zone appropriately and do not park for more than 1-2 minutes in this area.
  • Students should be let out of the vehicle on the sidewalk side of the vehicle, not on the street side.
  • Parents are asked to stay with their children until 8:30am when they are able to enter the school.  There is no outdoor supervision and parents are responsible for the safety of your children until the 8:30am bell rings. With the exception of temperatures at – 20C or more, students are required to be outside until the 8:30 am bell.  If there is a notice  on the door indicating that it is a Blue Day, students will be allowed to enter the school.
  • Please slow down when passing the patrols and be mindful of their signs to ensure our students can all cross the street safely.

Lost and Found

Our cupboards are becoming full again with lost property – snow pants/mitts/sweaters etc. please have your child look for lost items. Parents are welcome to check as well.  Please check in at the office to do so. Any remaining items will be donated after the School Conferences on March 21.

From the Office

Kindergarten Registration continues.  Confirmation of registration will be sent to our registered families starting the week of February 17.  If you know of families who are still waiting to register their Kindergarten child, please ask them to do so as soon as possible. In addition to this, please hold the date for our Kindergarten Orientation on May 29 at 6:00pm.

Volunteering at Chaparral School

If you have completed your Police Check and our annual volunteer registration you are eligible to volunteer at our school.  Please email the school at chaparral@cbe.ab.ca is you would like to come in on a regular basis.  We are always looking for support to complete odd tasks throughout the school.

From Our School Council

Our next School Council meeting is Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 pm.  We will keep our community posted as to whether this meeting will be in person or online.  This will be determined by the Labour Action of our CUPE employees.  At this point, we are planning for an online meeting. More information is on our School website in the banner stories on the front page, if you are interested.

Fun Lunch/Fun Snacks & Spirit Days

Our next Fun Lunch day is March 13.  It is A&W

Our next Spirit Day is Thursday, March 13.  It is Games Day! Students are invited to bring a board game that can be played in class with peers.  The timings for when the games are played will be chosen by classroom teachers to allow for balance between learning and games participation.

Weekly Mantra

You Are Made of Sunrises and Second Chances.

 (SEL Competency – Social-Awareness & IELLF – Spirit Domain)

"Remember, each day is a fresh start and a chance to grow. You bring new energy, kindness, and hope to our school, just like a sunrise. Embrace every moment—you’re filled with the brightness of a brand-new day!"

Month at a Glance

We have moved to a Month at a glance calendar rather than in the weekly updates.  It will be provided at the beginning of the month each month and updates will be posted on our website as they occur.
