Be Prepared for the Warm Weather

This last week of warm weather reminded us of the importance of being prepared for the sun!  At school, we are not able to put sunscreen on students.  Additionally, we are not able to have students use spray sunscreen on themselves.  Sprays often end up with someone getting sprayed in the face and eyes.  Sunscreen is important though, and we would like families to please ensure that you put sunscreen on your children in the AM as we go outside as much as possible, but at least 2-3 times per day for 15 minutes or more.

  • Just as important is the clothing they come to school in.  A hat for being outdoors is recommended, especially for those with fair skin and shorter hair.  They will protect from sun exposure.
  • We have also noticed some students being very overdressed for the weather with thick, black hoodies on and showing signs of overheating when outside in the sun.  This can be just as dangerous as a sunburn.  Please talk to your children about having a layer under their hoodies so we can recommend they remove warmer clothing should they appear to be too hot.
  • Thank you for helping us to keep the students safe in hot weather!

Transportation Registration

Please be sure to register for Transportation.  If your child is eligible for transportation under the new guidelines, it is important to register to ensure they have a place on the bus to ride. Registration is not payment!!!  There is no financial impact until mid-September.  You have to register early though to ensure there is a space for them.  Cancelling in easier than adding a route in the Fall.  The deadline for yellow bus transportation registration is now Sunday, June 22.

Freezie Fridays

We will have 1 more Freezie Fridays.  Please see the flyer that was sent home with your child or the posters that are in the windows of the doors at the school.  Please note, there is a limit to 1 Freezie per student each week.  This is sponsored by the Grade 6 Farewell Parent Committee.  Our last Freezie Friday will be on Friday, June 13.

From the Office

The Lost & Found is Exploding with Great Clothes

With the warm weather comes the inevitable growth of the lost and found!  Your children are choosing to shed their hoodies and jackets as they get too warm when on recess.  All of these items eventually find their way to the Lost and Found cabinets.

Although we love to have a great space to collect these belongings, we are sad to see them so overflowing!

Please ensure you and your children are checking them regularly.  If there is a specific item missing, please email your child’s teacher to get assistance in re-locating it again.  We are always happy to re-unite the missing pieces with their owners.

All clothing left on the last day of school will be donated.
