Important Information

Holiday Spirit Week

We are really sad that we had to cancel our Family Winter event.  It is always heart-warming to bring our community together, especially at the holidays.  There is so much to celebrate.

We are going to have a Holiday Spirit Week this week though.

          Monday – Holiday Sweater Day

          Tuesday – Wear Red Day

Wednesday – Festive Hat &/or Hair Day

          Thursday – Wear Green Day

          Friday – Pajama Day

Additionally, we are hoping to be able to do some caroling.  That is still being determined though as we monitor our illness outbreak.  Until we fall within the AHS acceptable illness rate threshold, we are limiting the large group gatherings and only mixing students within the same Grade group if mixing is required.  Phys Ed is taught in double classes of the same grade already, so this is part of what is regularly done and not and extra exposure.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to bring our school community to a healthier place before the holidays.

This coming Thursday is also the start of Hanukkah.  We would like to wish our families who celebrate this beautiful time of year, a very Happy Hanukkah.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten Registration begins on January 12.  If your child is going to be 5 years old by December 31, 2026, they are eligible to attend Kindergarten.  Please visit the website at https://cbe.ab.ca/news-centre/Pages/Countdown-to-Kindergarten-Learning-Starts-Here.aspx to learn more.

Holiday Support

There is still time to support the Veteran’s Food Bank.  If you are able to share some non-perishable food items for the Veteran’s, it would be very appreciated.  We are collecting until Wednesday December 17.  This will give us time to have the items delivered.

Holiday Treats

With the holidays coming, many families are wanting to bring in treats for the classes to share and partake in.  Although it is a nice gesture, we are not able to share treats at school for a variety of reasons, including allergies, etc.  Please do not send these treats to school.  They are a nice thought, but we will have to send them home unshared if they do come.

From the Office

Contacting the School

This is a reminder that we now have a new Admin Secretary, Mrs. Paula Kersch.  Please ensure that any emails regarding your child’s attendance or your myCBE account, are directed to Paula or Alicia, our school assistant.  Paula’s email is pjkersch@cbe.ab.ca

Alicia’s email is algerber@cbe.ab.ca

Attendance calls can be made directly to the attendance line at 403-777-6424 ext 1.  The general email is chaparral@cbe.ab.ca This can also be used to report an absence.

Lunchroom Registration

Parents are reminded to access your MyCBE account and register you child for lunchroom.  Currently we are missing approximately 350 students on the lunchroom list.  This service and registration helps us to have the accurate number of supervisors on for safety and support.  Thank you in advance for your prompt response to this request.

Dress for the Weather and Fun in the Snow

The cold weather is here and so is the snow.  Students and families are reminded that we go outside everyday unless the temperatures are colder than -20 including the windchill.  Please be sure to come dressed to play outside every day.

Additionally, the snow brings many new opportunities to our playground.  Students are invited to build snow forts, snowmen, snow angels and other snow creations.  We ask that snow stays on the ground though and that we do not throw snowballs. Although it can be fun, many injuries occur at school from snowballs, so they are not allowed during our time at school.

We also ask that students respect other people’s creations and leave them intact.  We have had a few destroyed by others already and this causes conflict and heartbreak. Please build your own structures and let other stay in one piece.

Lost & Found

The lost and found is very big!!  With the addition on mitts and toques, it is getting quite full.  Parents, please have your children check for lost items.  You are also welcome to come in and see if there is anything in there belonging to your child.  Any items left at the Winter Break will be donated as we do not have a way of storing them long-term.

Please remember to label your child’s belongings with their names.  It makes it much easier to find the rightful owner to lost items this way.

Extended Vacations

If your family will be taking an extended vacation over the holiday season, please be sure to fill in the extended vacation form at the main office.

From School Council

Meeting

Our next meeting will be January 15, 2026, at 6:30pm – Kindergarten is presenting.

Healthy Hunger

Fun Snack is on December 18.  It is Holiday Cookies.

Spirit Day

Our next Spirit Day will be on Thursday January 15.  We will have Anything But a Backpack Day on this day! Students and staff are encouraged to find a creative way to bring their items to school, using ANYTHING, but NOT a backpack!  Items should be small enough to easily work in a classroom setting.  The size of a backpack is perfect.  We look forward to seeing the creativity for this day!

Month at a Glance

We have a Month at a glance calendar that will be distributed at the beginning of each month. Updates will be posted on our website as they occur.

Please check our website for calendar updates. You can subscribe to it and the updates will go straight to your phone!!  You will always be in the know!

Families are reminded that our website should always be your first point of information updates as it is consistent for the whole school.

Monthly Mantra

The monthly mantra for December is:

Imagine a world … where city lights float from their frames like a flurry of falling stars to brighten your way.
